DIGITAL Equipment Australia announced two low-cost computers that could promote the progress it has enjoyed in receipt of computer orders this year.
According to Digital applications manager Mr R Frith, orders have been rolling in at the rate of about three a month this year.
The PDP-8/L costs $8270 which the company claims makes it the least expensive full-scale general purpose computer available. The other new model, the PDP-9/L is a medium-range machine that costs $19,360, compared with $31,500 for the PDP-9.

AN international computer network of libraries was forecast by Mr John Balnaves, a senior official of the National Library of Australia. He said the international system, when fully developed in the next few years, would enable the world's leading libraries to recode and exchange bibliographical data on machine-readable tape.
